A family, a barn, and a home that keeps evolving

The Old Cow Barn is run by our family: me, Michelle, my husband Alex, our twin boys Louis and Theo, our dog Penny, and five chickens — Tuppence, Amberetta, Jackie Chan the Maran, Beatrice and Maple. We are all part of the daily noise, chaos and joy that makes this place feel like home.

It is a small, online-only business run from the rooms of this old barn, with orders packed carefully from our corner of the countryside and sent straight to your door.

We moved here because we fell for the country aesthetic and the promise of a project. The barn dates back to the early 1800s and was converted from a cow barn into a dwelling in the 1970s, but not in a way that honoured the building. We are slowly renovating it room by room, stripping back the layers and returning it to something that feels more honest to the stone, the light and the land around it.

Part of that project is a new wing for my aging parents. My father has Alzheimer’s, and we wanted to create a space where they could be close to us if and when they need to be. That wing is currently being renovated, and it shapes the way we think about home: it needs to be calming, warm, uncluttered and easy to live in, for every generation under our roof.

With young children, aging parents, a cockapoo who believes she is in charge, and chickens who wander wherever they please, we are surrounded by reminders of what a home should feel like. Natural materials, heritage colours, earthy finishes and useful, beautiful objects help us keep the rooms feeling grounded and peaceful.

Every product on this site has been chosen with our own home in mind. If I would not have it in my own house, I will not stock it. That is the only rule that matters.
